New story in National Geographic Explorer: Balance for the Bogs
At a National Geographic’s Explorer Festival I met three other “explorers” who love wetlands. A Brazilian scientist who studies Amazonian mangrove forests, a Filipino photographer who captures his national swamps, and a Rwandan scientist who studies marsh dragonflies.
Together, we pitched an issue concept to National Geographic Society’s classroom reader, Explorer Magazine, where we would introduce elementary school students to these amazing wetlands around the world.
That pitch became the basis for the May 2020 issue of Explorer Magazine’s Wetlands special issue. I wrote about finding balance in Irish bogs between conservation interests and traditional peat cutting uses.
